Steps to Becoming a Member

All the steps of becoming a member do work online:

  1. Apply for CFA Institute and Society Membership: Create an account (if you haven't already) and enter your details.

Please apply for German CFA Society as well in the respective data field when selecting the local society.

You'll require sponsors to confirm your status and CV: One CFA charterholder sponsor AND one supervisor sponsor, one of which must be a German CFA Society member. The supervisor sponsor requirement is waived if the applicant is the principal of the firm, a student, retired, self-employed, unemployed, or if providing a supervisor sponsor places the applicant in a difficult professional position. In these cases, in lieu of a supervisor sponsor, applicants must find a second sponsor who is a regular member of CFA Institute (but not necessarily a CFA charterholder). Again, one of the two sponsors must be a member of the German CFA Society).

In case you can't find sponsors please conact our membership chair.

  2. Wait for CFA Institute and Society Review (Review process may take up to eight weeks).

  3. Activate Your Membership: Activating your membership includes paying member dues (CFA Institute annual dues are US$275; society are 100 US$ p.a.) and filing your Professional Conduct Statement online.

This application process may take up to 8-10 weeks.

Upgrading membership

  • Affiliate members who become CFA charterholders during the course of their membership, will automatically be upgraded to regular member status and be billed at the chartered member rate.
  • Affiliate members who wish to upgrade to regular membership after having accumulated sufficient months of work experience in order to qualify for regular membership must submit the membership upgrade form by logging in to the CFA Institute website.
  • Applicants who are graduates of the CFA program and regular members who become CFA charterholders during the course of their membership will automatically be billed at the chartered member rate.

Change to retired Membership

To change membership status from regular or affiliate membership to retired membership, an individual must:

  • meet all requirements for retired membership imposed by CFA Institute and the German CFA Society
  • log in the CFA Institute website and submit the membership status change form

Transfer From Another Society

If you are already a member of CFA institute and have recently moved or are planning to move to Germany and want to transfer your current society membership to German CFA Society or if you became a member of CFA Institute before the founding of the German CFA Society and now wish to join, please log in the CFA Institute website and submit the change form.
